Evaluation Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The layout of my magazine has changed and improved a lot since the preliminary task. The positioning of the photograph isn't very good on my college magazine and it hasn't been edited in any way and doesn't look professional at all.  Also the cover lines are all at the bottom in the same font and look really plain. The whole magazine looks boring and unattractive to the audience. However my music magazine is a lot better with the main photo positioned nicely in the middle and big so it stands out, with other images around it and story lines to go with some of the images. I have used boxes to make the cover lines stand out and it definitely looks a lot more professional.

The photograph on my college magazine isn't very good quality compared to my music magazine because the college photo was taken on a phone and the images on my music magazine were taken with an SLR Camera. Also for the college magazine i haven't considered the lighting or props or location where as with the music magazine I feel the lighting is a lot better with better props and the locations were different and I actually thought about them. I also feel my music magazine portrays my genre of pop.

The colours I have used on both magazines are bright and stand out, however I feel the colours used on my music magazine compliment each other more. I have learnt to use different sizes of text to show a variation and to make the more important bits stand out more than the rest, this will attract the target audience more and catch their eye. Also I learnt to use different fonts aswell but to make sure they fit in with the genre.

The layout for my music magazine is much better than my college magazine as i have thought more about it and the positioning is a lot better as in the preliminary task I put the contents stories down one side with pictures on the other with the title at the top and a lot of blank space. Whereas my music magazine uses the space more and makes it look busy but not too much that you can't read or understand parts. The text is spread out all over the page and split into different sections making it easier to find what you're looking for.

The font used on my college magazine is simple and doesn't stand out whereas on my music magazine I have made it suit the genre and stand out more so it doesn't look too boring. I have also made the title at the top bigger to help it stand out.

The photographs on my preliminary task aren't a great quality as they were taken using a camera on a phone, However they have been taken around the college so the mise en scene fits with the magazine nicely but the lighting isn't that great in the images.

Evaluation Question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product? Why?

This is a drawing of someone who represents my target audience. The magazine is aimed at people around her age who are at school studying still. I think she'll be attracted to my magazine because she likes artists such as Conor Maynard, One Direction and Rita Ora who are all featured in my magazine and are pop artists. I think the majority of my target audience will be at school, this is why I have drawn the girl in a school uniform. I also think that my magazines is mainly aimed at girls and this is why i drew a girl to represent the target audience. The typical age range will probably be 11-16 year olds as I think the content would mostly be suited to that age range.

Evaluation Question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Posture/Gesture - The pose i got my models to do (Left) is very similar to the one of Rizzle Kicks (Right). Both models have got their backs to each other just like Rizzle Kicks have, I used this style of pose because the models are for a girl group which is a duo and Rizzle Kicks are a duo band so I thought it would suit it well.

Angle - The angle is Eye level and shows the models looking directly at the camera. The models are also side on and as there are two of them it is also a two shot. However the one of rizzle kicks looks like its a slightly lower angle to my photo, but the models are both side on and looking at the camera.

Shot type - My photo is a medium close up where as I would say the one on the right is a medium shot. They are both also two shots. I would say the shot types are both suited as it portrays what they are really like as an artist and can tell the genre through the image and the clothes they wear.

Lighting - Both mine and the image of rizzle kicks are shot in high key lighting, however my image was more high key, you can see a bit of a glow if you look on the models skin on there faces which is reflecting the light.

Costumes - Both mine and the image on the right includes models wearing laid back clothing. In my image the clothing is more casual where as rizzle kicks is more relaxed and portrays them as funny, cheeky people just wanting to have a laugh. Where as compared to rizzle kicks my models look more serious.

Expressions - In both images the models are looking straight at the camera and are smiling however on the right Harley is smiling with his mouth open showing his teeth.

I have represented young people as happy and mature. My models are teenagers as younger people will attract the target audience so having young models fits in well with the genre of the magazine. My models are there to set an example to the young viewers of the magazine.

I have represented gender throughout my magazine by only using female models as my magazine is aimed at females, however there are mentions of males throughout but the main story includes female models. I thought this would attract my target market more.
